About Colten W. Smith
He is a 3rd generation Austinite. Colten received his B.B.A. degree in Accounting and spent five years working for an accounting firm before attending law school. He received his Certified Public Accounting license while attending Baylor Law School. During the last 20 years, he has practiced complex commercial litigation and performed full business legal services for countless small to medium sized companies. He’s litigated as a plaintiff’s attorney in numerous federal and state courts, many which resulted in million dollar plus outcomes, all while “only wearing a suit when I’m in court”.
Over much of the last decade, Colten has worked extensively researching and testing what he calls Defined Fee ArrangementsTM (“DFAs”) in an effort to assist clients in being able to afford the quality legal services they need and assist attorneys in better detailing what is/is not provided for the fee charged to their clients associated with the services. His extensive work in this area was instrumental in the creation of Colten’s List and led Colten to become an innovator/mentor/consultant in DFAs.
In addition to being a practicing attorney, Colten is the CEO of Colten’s List, L.L.C. and on the board of directors of Panoramic Voices, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to spreading new/unique music to the public and supporting local music artists.
